Registration

Since 1 July 2010, a single national registration and accreditation system was established in Australia. The national board for the physiotherapy profession is the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.

Major functions of the Board

The functions of the Physiotherapy Board of Australia include:

  • registering physiotherapists and students
  • developing standards, codes and guidelines for the physiotherapy profession
  • handling notifications, complaints, investigations and disciplinary hearings
  • assessing overseas trained practitioners who wish to practise in Australia
  • approving accreditation standards and accredited courses of study.

If you were registered with a State or Territory registration board as at 30 June 2010 you will have automatically transitioned to the new national registration and accreditation scheme. Your registration is now recognised in the States and Territories of Australia that have enacted the National Law.

For more information on registration please refer to the Board's website.
