Committee Members

The IHC comprises physiotherapists from around Australia with knowledge and experience of Indigenous health issues:

Lucy Medley (Deputy Chair)
Lucy Medley graduated in 2002 and, after consolidating her physiotherapy degree with 12 months in an acute Sydney hospital, she moved to Alice Springs to work at the Alice Springs Hospital and Rehabilitation Unit.  Seeking experience in a remote Indigenous context, Lucy moved to Katherine to continue working in the final 18 months of the KRAHRS Allied Health Team Pilot Project as a physiotherapist and co-manager.

After two years in Northern Territory, Lucy moved to Melbourne to gain more theoretical knowledge about working in a development context.  She completed a Masters in Social Science (International Development), while continuing to work as a physiotherapist in early childhood intervention and disability; and has completed a single university accredited subject — Community Based Rehabilitation.  Lucy is currently employed in a policy position with the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

Philippa Cotter
Philippa Cotter graduated in 1992 and completed a Masters of Public Health at the University of New South Wales in 2003.  Philippa is a researcher at the School for Social and Policy Research, Charles Darwin University in Darwin and her current work is examining policy development for older Indigenous Australians.  Until 2001 Philippa worked in acute, rehabilitation and community settings in Sydney and Darwin.  She also has experience as a senior policy advisor on aged care and disability for the Northern Territory Government and as a consultant/writer on various Indigenous health projects.  Philippa was one of the founding members of the APA Indigenous Health Committee.

Chris Lane
Chris graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1997, and went on to work in various settings including acute hospital, rehabilitation and community health in both rural and city settings.  He is a non-Indigenous physiotherapist sharing his working life between the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) and an inner city Community Health Service.  His work at VAHS involves working one day a week with the Elders (mainly doing home visits) and one day working in the clinic with all age groups.  He works in a small allied health team (a podiatrist, dietitian, occupational therapist, fitness leader and another physiotherapist), and together with a large medical team they provide health services to much of Melbourne’s Indigenous population.

Marilyn Morgan
Marilyn joined the IHC on 1 January 2010.
