About Us
The vision of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) is that all Australians will have access to quality physiotherapy, when and where required, to optimise health and wellbeing.
The Indigenous Health Committee (IHC) is a management expert advisory committee that supports and advises the APA Board, via management, regarding Indigenous health issues.
IHC activities include:
- Assisting the APA to advocate for increased physiotherapy services for Indigenous peoples as part of comprehensive primary health care
- Assisting the APA to equip physiotherapists with the appropriate skills, knowledge and support to meet the needs of Indigenous peoples
- Assisting the APA to increase the number of, and support for, Indigenous physiotherapists
- Raising awareness within the APA of the issues related to Indigenous health
- Raising awareness of and, where appropriate assisting the APA to respond to, Federal Government Indigenous health policies and reports.
How to get Involved
- Nominate for membership on the IHC
Every October there will be an APA-wide call for nominations for committee positions due to commence on 1 January of the next year. The committee meets via teleconference on a number of occasions throughout the year (as determined by the group) and also meets face-to-face for one day over a weekend. During their term, IHC members are expected to contribute a small amount of time, expertise and energy. The committee is supported by an APA staff member from the national office.
