The journal is indexed in two categories and ranks 9 among 43 journals in Rehabilitation, and 24 among 79 journals in Sports Sciences. The journal's Impact Factor has been growing steadily since its acceptance for indexing by NLM in 2001.

Journal of Physiotherapy is the official journal of the Australian Physiotherapy Association. The Editorial Board’s mission is to publish significant research which has important implications for physiotherapy. Our vision is for the journal to be the pre-eminent international publication of the science and practice of physiotherapy.

Australian Journal of Physiotherapy was first published in 1954; content from all issues back to Vol 1 No 1 is available on this site. In 2010 the journal title changed to Journal of Physiotherapy. Access to the most recent four issues is restricted and available only to members of the APA and to subscribers to the journal. Content from all other back issues is unrestricted and available for free download. Papers are supplemented electronically by downloadable eAddenda which provide datasets, trial protocols, and additional information for interested readers.

The journal’s popular Critically Appraised Papers appear in translation in partnership with journals in France, Germany, Norway and Holland. By arrangement selected papers also appear in translation in the official journals of the professional associations in Brazil and Iran, on a website in Poland, and in the teaching program in Afghanistan. Journal of Physiotherapy is also available free to institutions in qualifying countries under the WHO HINARI initiative.

Journal of Physiotherapy is indexed on MEDLINE and 19 other international indices, thus ensuring a worldwide readership. Circulation is approximately 10 000 print copies.

The journal is a member of and subscribes to the principles of COPE, the Committee on Publication Ethics. The journal is vigilant in identifying potential conflict of interest that may influence what appears in the Journal. Conflict of interest could occur in members of the Editorial Board (all members submit a register of interests to the Editor), potential authors (who are required to list interests that may have influenced a paper on submission), and reviewers (who may have an interest in the subject of the paper or with the authors.)
