As you'll know the federal election date has finally been set for Saturday 21 August. Importantly, one of the core campaign issues is health. There is much debate around what reforms are needed, and this presents the APA with a great opportunity to advocate for physiotherapists and their patients. The APA will be ensuring that the most important issues are addressed by the major political parties in the upcoming campaign. We've identified the referral access to sport and exercise medicine specialists, registration of specialist physiotherapists and access to an increased range of diagnostic imaging rebates as prominent federal issues on which physiotherapists want action. To help make sure that you are fully informed when you walk into that polling booth on 21 August, the APA has requested the position of the major political parties on our campaign issues. We have written to the Australian Labor Party, the Coalition and the Australian Greens and will be publishing their unedited responses to a range of questions online and through our eNews. Click here to see the questions we asked. As the parties respond to our concerns, they'll be posted here. We'll send you an email to remind you to have a look as the answers roll in. Your sayThe APA has been advocating on these issues for some time. However adding your voice to the call for action would be a valuable addition to the APA's work. To give you a helping hand, we've produced some support materials. Click here to access our brochure on the APA's three primary campaign issues, and here to access tips on writing an effective letter. After 12 noon on Friday, 30 July you can click here to go the Australian Electoral Commission's website to find a list of candidates in your electorate and you can write to them on the most important issues to you.
