$3m boost to Brisbane economy from physiotherapy conference

Around two thousand physiotherapists descended on Brisbane late October (27-30) bringing close to a staggering $3million dollar cash injection into Queensland.

APA President Melissa Locke says the APA Physiotherapy Conference offered physiotherapists the opportunity to expand their knowledge with the most up to date methods of assessment, prevention, evidence based treatment and management of a range of health concerns and issues. During the conference, 150 keynote and invited speakers, 450 abstract papers and over 80 exhibitors contributed to delivering the APA's most outstanding conference yet,' said Ms Locke.

'The APA Physiotherapy Conference 2011 continued to inspire a more active and injury free environment for all delegates and their future patients.

'The APA was proud to work with the Brisbane Convention Centre and Brisbane Marketing to host Australia's largest physiotherapy conference, allowing physiotherapists across all areas of care to come together in one setting to collaborate, share their knowledge and experience all that Brisbane has to offer,' said Ms Locke.

'The Brisbane Convention Centre was an ideal place for our members to enhance their professional development and exchange ideas with their international counterparts, who include some of the eminent physiotherapists in the world.

'The APA Physiotherapy Conference provided the opportunity to showcase the work that is undertaken in each of the respective areas of expertise within Australia. This included women's health physiotherapy exploring continence management, cardiorespiratory physiotherapy which reviewed pre organ transplantation conditioning, and neurological physiotherapy where advances in stoke management were showcased. The conference will further cement the Australian physiotherapy profession as a world-class leader in areas including clinical practice, education, leadership and research,' stated Ms Locke.
