The Fair Work Act - what physiotherapists need to know |

On 1st January 2010 the last of the Workchoices IR laws were repealed, and the new Fair Work Act came into effect. All physiotherapy employers, employees and contractors should make sure that they thoroughly understand the new requirements. The new system covers physiotherapists employed by sole traders, partnerships, other unincorporated entities and non-trading corporations in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. It also covers physiotherapists that are employed in businesses that were covered under the old federal system such as Pty Ltd businesses and practices in the ACT, NT and Victoria.1 Employers, employees and contractors should go to the Fair Work Online website at www.fairwork.gov.au for information on the changes and, to access the new Modern Award that now applies to physiotherapists.
