Titling

The APA National Groups have a process for recognising members with advanced expertise and experience in their relevant area of practice.

As the first step to specialisation, members that demonstrate an advanced level of competency and experience in their field of practice may apply to the APA National Groups to be awarded the right to use an APA Physiotherapy title. The titles awarded by groups are:

APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist
APA Sports Physiotherapist
APA Animal Physiotherapist
APA Gerontological Physiotherapist
APA Neurological Physiotherapist
APA Occupational Health Physiotherapist
APA Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapist
APA Continence and Women's Health Physiotherapist
APA Paediatric Physiotherapist

The Code of Conduct precludes physiotherapists from using these titles unless they have achieved titled membership of the APA.

The award of title serves as the professional mark of distinction for physiotherapists practising in their specific field of practice, and may result in the following benefits:

  • Marketing and advertising opportunities
  • Access to the PBA Marketing Solutions product (exclusive MPA & SPA titleholders only)
  • The potential for financial benefits - one health insurer is introducing increased rebates for titled physiotherapists, and we expect more to follow
  • The opportunity to attract new clientele
  • Enhanced employment opportunities - APA Sports Physiotherapists are the only physiotherapists eligible to work as Physiotherapists for the Australian Olympic Team
  • Formal recognition of experience and qualifications by peers, the community, referrers and employers
  • Personal satisfaction that you are at the peak
